Pesky Insects

Catnip—To rid our barn and barnyard of flies, we hang freshly cut catnip from the rafters. When the catnip dries completely, we put it on the ground and run the lawn mower over it to spread it about the barnyard. I have also boiled catnip in a huge pot and strained the water to make a spray that I used on the barn, barnyard and goats. Since our goats have developed a taste for catnip, we hang the insect repellent bunches high in the rafter out of their reach. The kids love to eat the catnip leaves off the plants. The adults are not as fond of eating it, but like to rub their heads and bodies on it. I sometimes weave harvested catnip into their chain link fence so they can rub against it to their hearts' content.
